"Placard for the Politically Undecided"
I took inspiration from meeting and listening to Tony Benn in 2011
He asserted that voters wanted politicians to be "Sign Posts" (pointing the way) not 'Weather Cocks " (changing with the wind)
Whilst the (double sided) placard span viewers were invited to listen to an audio commentary via headphones
The commentry delivered almost identical but contradictory statements into the listeners right and left ears simultaniously
The statements were opposing political views so for example:
A woman's place is in the cabinet (ran with) A woman's place is in the kitchen
Migrants enrich our culture (ran with) Migrants engulf our culture
The piece showed at Stroud Lansdown Gallery in 2011
Another audio piece I planned was intended for a site specific show in a decomissioned church
My initial idea for a piece called "One god?" was to broadcast an islamic call to prayer from the pulpit.
The organisers went for a less controversial piece in which speakers were placed amongst the pews playing the sound of sheep bleating
whilst a another speaker, hidden in the pulpit, broadcast dog commands, whistles and barking.
"The lord is your Shepard?" Showed at Saint Nicolas Church 2012
